The protection of your personal data and your privacy is important to us. We collect, store and use personal data exclusively within the scope as specified in this Privacy Policy. We maintain up-to-date technical measures to ensure data security. We also pass our data protection obligation on to our employees.

1. Subject of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the website “www.eKidz.eu” (hereinafter the “Website”) and the mobile app named “eKidz.eu” (hereinafter the “App”), which is offered by eKidz.eu GmbH under the name “eKidz.eu” or “eKidz”.

The subject of the Privacy Policy is personal data. Pursuant to EU General Data Protection Regulation (hereinafter the “GDPR”), personal data consists of the individual details about personal or factual circumstances of a particular or specific individual, such as their name, address, telephone number and email address. Anonymised information that cannot be assigned to a specific person is not considered personal data.

We would like to point out that data collection, storage and transmission of data on the internet can have security gaps. It is not possible to completely protect data from access by third parties on the internet.

2. Responsible Body at eKidz.eu GmbH

The responsible body within the meaning of the Article 4(7) GDPR is eKidz.eu Limited Liability Company (hereinafter “eKidz.eu GmbH”), Steinstrasse 3, 81667 Munich, Germany, represented by the managing directors Nataliia Tetruiieva, John McDonagh and Felix Haffner. 3. Your Users’ Rights

3.1. You have the following rights in relation to personal data concerning you: right to information, right of correction and deletion, right to limitation of processing, right to object to processing, and right of data portability.

3.2. You are also entitled to complain to a data protection supervisory authority in Germany about the processing of your personal data by us.

4. Informational Use of the Website

4.1 If you use the Website for information purposes - i.e. you do not use the contact forms or otherwise transmit information - we only collect the personal data that your browser automatically transmits to our server.

4.2 When you view the Website, we collect the following data, which are technically necessary for us to display the Website and to guarantee stability and security (a lawful basis is provided by Article 6(1) GDPR): IP address, name of the accessed eKidz.eu websites, the date and time of access, time zone difference (GMT), browser type and version, operating system, the website previously visited and the requesting internet provider.

5. Use of Cookies on the Website

5.1 We use so-called cookies on The Website. Cookies are small files that are transferred to your browser and stored there temporarily - for the duration of the access to the Website - (session cookies), or permanently (persistent cookies). This information stored in the cookies allows us to automatically recognize you the next time you visit the Website, which makes your use easier. Cookies cannot execute programs, or transfer viruses to your computer.

5.2 Session cookies are automatically deleted when you close the browser. Persistent cookies are deleted after a specified period of time on your browser.

5.3 The internet browser of your device can be set so that you are notified about the use of cookies and can decide to allow cookies only from specific websites or in individual cases. You can also generally exclude cookies and set the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. Disabling cookies may limit the functionality of the Website. Please also note that the website analysis services and social networks used by us use cookies. Please read paragraphs 9 to 10 of this Privacy Policy.

6. Inquiries by Email from eKidz.eu or Contact Forms on the Website

6.1 If you send an email to the eKidz.eu email address provided on the Website or in the App, or send us a contact form available on the Website for certain actions (webinars, free resources or trial access to the App), we will save your email address and the information provided in your email or the contact form. We use this information exclusively to process your request.

6.2 By submitting an enquiry or sending a contact form, you also agree in principle that we will communicate with you by email. We use SSL (“Secure Socket Layer”) encryption for all correspondence between our server and your browser.

6.3 We delete the data collected in connection with this correspondence after it is no longer necessary to keep it or restrict processing if there are legal obligations.

7. Subscription to Newsletter via Website or App registration

7.1 If you download the App and confirm your email address during the user registration with the registration code sent to you (double opt-in), you will automatically receive our newsletter.

Alternatively, you can subscribe for the newsletter on the Website by filling out the registration form and confirming that you agree to receive the newsletter (double opt-in).

7.2 If you subscribed for the newsletter, you allow us to send you an email with a newsletter up to two times a month. The newsletter can be cancelled at any time. To do so, please click on the “Unsubscribe” link in the email sent to you or unsubscribe by sending an email notification directly to info@eKidz.eu.

8. Consent SendGrid and Mailchimp

We use the service providers “SendGrid” and “Mailchimp” to send our newsletter and other email correspondences.

You hereby agree on the usage of your email address and user name by SendGrid and Mailchimp and to the transfer of related data to the USA.

SendGrid and Mailchimp comply with the strict rules of the Safe Harbor Agreement as well as with the successor convention from 2016, the EU-US Privacy Shield.

9. Google Analytics for the Website

We use Google Analytics, an offer from Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA to analyse the activities on our Website.

Google Analytics uses cookies that record information about the use of our Website and writes reports on our behalf about website activities.

The information collected by the cookies is transferred to the Google Analytics server in the USA and stored there. Google Analytics does not merge your IP address with other data.

10. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest on the Website

The services of the following social networks are integrated on our Website:

If you are logged in to any of these social networks while you visit the Website, a direct connection is established between your server and the social network server. The respective social network is then able to assign your visit to our Website to your user account at the social network.

From the Website, you can also transfer or link certain contents to the corresponding social network via a button („Button“), which is marked with the logo of the respective social network (Facebook „Like Button“ Button etc.).

As providers of the Website, we have no information about the information and data transmitted by the plug-in to social networks. If you want to prevent data transmission to social networks, please log out of your respective user account on the social network before visiting the Website.

11. Use of the App via Registration and Login

11.1 Before registering and logging in to the App, download the App from an App Store to your mobile device or computer. During the download, information is transferred to the App Store, in particular the user name, email address and user ID, time of download, payment information and the individual device ID number. We have no influence on this data collection and are not responsible for it. We process the data only to the extent necessary for downloading the App to your mobile device or computer.

11.2 Use of the App as a Family

After downloading the App, private individuals who wish to use the eKidz.eu offer must register in the App. During registration the following personal data is collected and stored:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Password

The information is mandatory. You can use fantasy names. You can manage and change all details except the email address in the protected user area under „Profile“. Email address and password are required to log in to the App.

Under your user account, you can then create up to 35 child profiles as sub-accounts to your main account. For each child account the following personal details must be provided:

  • First name*
  • Gender*
  • Year of birth
  • Password
  • Instructions (language)

The information marked with an asterisk * is mandatory for the child profile. Factually correct details are not required for names, gender and year of birth. You can decide whether the children's account should receive its own password.

We will not pass on or publish the information you provide as a private user to third parties without your consent. When downloading the App, section 12 of this Privacy Policy applies to access authorisation.

11.3 Use of the App as a Teacher and School

After downloading the App, if you want to use the App as a school or as a teacher, you must register in the App respectively.

When you register in the App, we collect and store some personal information about you. This includes:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Password
  • Name of the school (or organisation)
  • Address of the school (or organisation)

After registration, you can create a user profile for each student as a sub-account of the school's main account. To do this, you must provide the following personal details for each student as a user:

  • First and last name
  • Gender*
  • Year of birth
  • Password

The information marked with an asterisk * is mandatory for the student profile. We recommend the use of pseudonyms. A password is automatically assigned to the student account. The details of gender and year of birth do not have to be factually correct.

You can manage and change all details except email address, name and address of the school or organisation in the profile of each user (profile). We will not pass on or publish the information you have entered as a representative of a school or teacher to third parties without your consent. When downloading the App, section 12 of this Privacy Policy applies to all users with regard to access authorisation.

12. Access Permission to App

When you download the eKidz.eu app from the Apple Store and use it for the first time, for specific purposes, the following permissions are requested:

13. Consent for Recording of In-App User Behaviour Including Recording Feature

13.1 If you use the App as a private individual with your children or as a teacher and school with your students, you agree that we may record the user behaviour of the children/students in the App. This means that we record how often the App is opened, duration of use, which pages are read and listened to, how many and which questions are answered correctly or incorrectly, etc. We can only match these in-app behaviour data to a specific person via the user name. We therefore recommend the use of pseudonyms as user names for the children/students.

13.2 Recording feature: A function in the App that allows the children/students to record and save their own audio narration of the stories or read aloud texts. You agree that we can save this voice recording. The recordings can be deleted in the App at anytime by the children/students.

13.3 We process the usage data and recordings for scientific research in the areas relevant to eKidz.eu GmbH. These are in particular the research areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and deep learning as well as the efficiency analyses of online learning processes. In our research, we focus on the solution of everyday problems in the acquisition of literacy and language development. Our research serves to improve and develop the eKidz.eu program. In doing so, we observe the recognised scientific data protection standards. This also means that we only process data in summarised, anonymised or pseudonymised form for research purposes.

14. Security of the Website and App

We take precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information, including:

  • SSL (“Secure Socket Layer”) encryption for all app-server communication, and end-to-end encryption when downloading children’s recordings.
  • eKidz.eu uses secure data servers located in Germany for European users. Microsoft Azure cloud servers located in the USA are available to store all data for US schools upon request.
  • Federated servers in other nations may be available upon request.

Of course you are responsible for keeping your user name and password safe. Please never pass on your password. We secure the passwords in encrypted form and therefore cannot send you your password if you forget it. In this case, please use the “Forgotten password” function in the App.

15. Transformations at eKidz.eu GmbH

If the owners of eKidz.eu GmbH carry out a restructuring of their business, for example, if the GmbH is transferred to another company or is otherwise taken over by another company or sells part of its assets, you agree that your personal data may be considered part of the transferred assets. The provisions of this Privacy Policy will otherwise remain in effect.

16. Amendment of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy can be changed by eKidz.eu GmbH at any time.
