Information on Data Protection (as of February 2018)

The protection of your personal data and your privacy is important to us. We collect, store and use personal data exclusively within the scope as specified in this data privacy policy. We maintain current technical measures to ensure data security. We also pass our data protection obligation on to our employees.

1. Subject Matter of this Data Privacy Policy

This data privacy policy applies to the entire offer that is available on the website “www.eKidz.eu” (hereinafter the “website”) and the app named “eKidz.eu” (hereinafter the “app”), which is offered by eKidz.eu GmbH under the name “eKidz.eu”.

The subject matter of data protection is personal data. According to para. 3.1 BDSG, personal data consists of the individual details of the personal or factual circumstances of a particular or specific individual, such as their name, address, telephone number and email address. Anonymised information that cannot be assigned to a specific person is not considered personal data.

We would like to point out that data collection, storage and transmission on the internet can have security gaps. Full protection of data against access by third parties is not possible on the internet.

2. Responsible Body eKidz.eu GmbH

The responsible body within the meaning of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) is the eKidz.eu Limited Liability Company (eKidz.eu GmbH), Steinstraße 3, 81667 Munich, Germany, represented by managing directors Nataliia Tetruiieva, John McDonagh and Felix Haffner.

You can obtain information about the data stored about you, or a username assigned to you, as well as correct incorrect data and block or delete personal data at any time, as long as this is not in conflict with important company-specific reasons or legal regulations.

Such requests can be sent to the above address of eKidz.eu GmbH or sent directly by email to info@eKidz.eu.

3. Usage of the Website and App for Information Only

Personal identification is not possible if you do not register with us, log on to the website or app for usage, or otherwise transmit information. In these instances, no personal data is collected.

Server log files allow us to retrieve and collect your access data to our website. This access data includes the names of the websites retrieved from eKidz.eu, the dates and times of retrieval, the browser type and version, the operating system, the previously visited web page and the requesting provider. We use this data only for statistical evaluations for the purposes of the operation and for the security and optimization of the services of eKidz.eu. We can check access data at a later date if there are concrete indications of unlawful use.

We use cookies on our website and app. Cookies are small files that are transmitted to your browser and stored there temporarily, for the duration of your access to our website (session cookies), or permanently (permanent cookies) in order to record your user behaviour on our website.

The browser of your device can be configured so that you can be notified about the use of cookies and can decide to allow cookies only from specific websites or in individual cases. You can also generally exclude cookies and set cookies to be automatically deleted when the browser is closed. Please note that disabling cookies can limit the functionality of both the website and app.

Please also note that the website and app analysis services and social networks that we use are using cookies. For more information regarding this, please read paragraphs 7 and 8 of this privacy policy.

4. Inquires per Email or Contact Form

If you send an email to the eKidz.eu email address provided on the website or app, or use the contact form on the website, we will save your email address as well as the information provided in the email or contact form. We use this information exclusively to process your inquiry. By submitting an inquiry, you also agree to our communication with you via email. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for every correspondence between our server and your browser.

Please do not use our email address or contact form to send us advertisements.

5. Subscription to Newsletter

When you download the app and register as a user in the app (double opt-in) you will automatically receive our newsletter.

You can also register for the newsletter via our website. Please fill in the registration form and confirm that you are agreeing to receive our newsletter by confirming your email (double opt-in procedure). Subscribing to the newsletter allows us to send you an email with our newsletter up to 2 times a month.

Your subscription can be cancelled at any time. To do so, please click on the “Unsubscribe” link in the email that was sent to you. You can also unsubscribe by emailing info@eKidz.eu directly.

6. Consent to SendGrid and Mailchimp

We use the service providers “SendGrid” and “Mailchimp” to send our newsletter and other email correspondences.

You hereby expressly declare your consent to the usage of your email address and user name by SendGrid and Mailchimp and to the transfer of related data to the USA.

SendGrid and Mailchimp comply with the strict rules of the Safe Harbor Agreement as well as with the successor convention from 2016, the EU-US Privacy Shield.

7. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, an offer from Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA to analyse the activities on our website.

Google Analytics uses cookies that record information about the use of our website and writes reports on our behalf about website activities.

The information collected by the cookies is transferred to the Google Analytics server in the USA and stored there. Google Analytics does not merge your IP address with other data.

8. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest

The services of the following social networks are integrated on our website:

If you are logged in to any of these social networks while you visit our website, a direct connection is established between your server and the social network server. The respective social network is then able to assign your visit to our website to your user account at the social network.

From our website, you can also transfer or link certain contents to the corresponding social network via a button (“Button”), which is marked with the logo of the respective social network (Facebook “Like Button” Button etc.).

As providers of the website, we have no information about the information and data transmitted by the plug-in to social networks. If you want to prevent data transmission to social networks, please log out of your respective user account on the social network before visiting our website.

Furthermore, please note that the servers of social networks are regularly located outside of Germany and can be found throughout Europe and also in the USA. When you use social networks, you therefore agree to the corresponding data transfer abroad.

9. Use of the App by Schools and Teachers as registered users

If you would like to use eKidz.eu as a school or as a teacher for one or more school classes, you must register in the app.

When you register in the app, we collect and store some personal information about you.

This includes:

  • Title
  • Name and surname
  • E-mail address
  • Password
  • Name of the school (or educational institution)
  • Address of the school
  • Your position at the school (or educational institution)
  • Phone number

If you have purchased a license and registered as a school or teacher in the app and would like to use eKidz.eu for your students, a user account must be created for each student. To do this, you must provide the following information for each user:

  • Name and surname
  • Gender
  • Password
  • Instructional language
  • Language of programme and reading level
  • Year of birth
  • Class

Students can create fantasy usernames. Otherwise we do not collect personal data about your students. For each class that you register, the appropriate grade must be specified for classification of language abilities. When downloading the eKidz.eu app, paragraph 11 of this data protection policy applies to the access authorization of the users.

All the user information can be managed and amended in the “Account Management” section of the app.

The information you provide as a teacher or representative of a school will not be passed on to third parties without your consent.

10. Use of the eKidz.eu App by Private Users when Registering

Individuals wishing to use eKidz.eu services should download the app from the Apple Store and register there. When registering, the following personal data is collected and stored:

  • Title
  • Name and surname
  • E-mail address
  • Password

The information is mandatory for the use of eKidz.eu. You can manage and change all details in the protected user area under “Profile”.

You can create up to 35 reader profiles. For each eKidz.eu license you purchase under your registration, you must provide the following details:

  • Name and surname *
  • Gender *
  • Password *
  • Instructional language
  • Language of programme and reading level
  • Year of birth

All the information marked with asterisk is mandatory for the creation of a child user profile. Fantasy usernames can also be used. A password is created automatically in the child profile.

When downloading the eKidz.eu app, paragraph 11 of this data protection policy applies to the access authorization of the users.

We will not disclose or publish any information you provide as a private user to third parties without your consent.

11. Access Permission to App

When you download the eKidz.eu app from the Apple Store and use it for the first time, for specific purposes, the following permissions are requested:

12. Security of Website and App

We take precautionary measures to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your personal data. These precautions include:

  • The use of SSL encryption (“Secure Socket Layer”) for every correspondence between our server and your browser
  • Use of datacenters located in Germany

While we attach great importance to protecting confidential information, we cannot guarantee absolute data security on the internet.

You are responsible for your username and password. No one at eKidz.eu will ever ask you for your password, so please do not share this information. We secure passwords in encrypted form and cannot send you your password if you forget it. In this case, please use the “Forgotten password” function on our website or app to retrieve or reset your password.

13. Changes at eKidz.eu GmbH

If the owners of eKidz.eu GmbH carry out a restructuring of their business, for example sells a part of its assets or transfers the GmbH to another company or is taken over by another company, you agree that your personal data is part of the transferred assets. The provisions of this data protection policy shall remain unaffected.

14. Changes to this Data Protection Policy

This data protection policy can be changed at any time by eKidz.eu GmbH. The current version is available at http://ekidzwp.azurewebsites.net/en/privacy-policy/.
